Kidd O’Shea begins the interview by explaining that those that are experiencing leg pain may have PAD. He prompts Dr. Chun to answer the question “What is PAD?” Dr. Chun explains that PAD, or Peripheral Artery Disease, is the narrowing of the arteries and that symptoms can be as mild as cramping in the legs while walking. The cramps can become more severe and significantly limit how far someone can walk. In more severe cases, a person with Peripheral Artery Disease can experience pain at rest and could lead to minor or major tissue loss.

Dr. Chun’s PAD Risk Reduction Tips

Dr. Chun suggests modifying and controllable risk factors, like smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. Advancing age is another risk factor for PAD that can’t be modified. Vascular specialists can help patients manage those risk factors and determine the next steps if a patient is experiencing a blockage of the artery.
