What to Expect at your Procedure with Modern Vascular – Dr. Martinez

Dr. Jeff Martinez, Vascular Surgeon and Managing Physician at Modern Vascular in San Antonio on Lexington Ave. explains what to expect at your procedure with Modern Vascular.

Before the Procedure

We ask that you arrive an hour early on the day of your procedure. After you check in you will be accompanied back to the holding area where the nurses will ask you some questions. We’ll get an IV for sedation during the procedure started and you will be asked to change into a gown. Then we will move you to the room where the procedure will take place.

During the Procedure

We go over the risks, benefits, and alternative treatments before your procedure begins. You may ask the doctor questions about peripheral artery disease or the procedure. If you are experiencing any discomfort during the procedure please let the nurse know so that it can be addressed. The procedure typically takes between one to three hours, but most patients are done in about an hour and a half.

After the Procedure

We will discuss anything findings with you and schedule a follow-up appointment. There may be some medications for you to take, and since some patients experience swelling after the procedure we may also put you in compression stockings. If you have any questions you can contact our nurses and our nurses will contact you the next day to check in and see how you are doing.
