Dr. Hootman from Modern Vascular of Albuquerque, New Mexico Shares His Advice

There’s no doubt that patients that suffer from peripheral artery disease are in the class of people that are at risk for developing a more severe form of covid if they get the infection. It’s scary to think about going out, whether it is to the grocery store, hospital, or even the emergency room. That is weighing on people and has been for quite a while.

We can’t ignore things that need to be addressed just because of covid. We need to wear our masks, wash our hands frequently, and only go out to places that are really important. People have been putting off a lot of medical visits because of covid, and that is a valid concern. People should not ignore signs and symptoms, especially serious ones, because they are concerned about contracting covid by visiting their doctor or a hospital.

Patients that have been diagnosed with PAD, and understand what it is, have likely been through treatment before. They know the symptoms and what it is like when they improve. If they notice the worsening of symptoms should prompt them to reach out to their doctor and at least ask questions and share their concerns. Signs that should not be ignored at all are new wounds or blisters on the legs and feet that could lead to infection and in some cases amputation. Modern Vascular of Albuquerque, New Mexico is dedicated to preventing unnecessary amputations due to peripheral artery disease.
