Fort Worth PAD Treatment
Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a condition that typically affects the legs and feet. Atherosclerosis is a condition that causes a blockage in the blood vessels due to plaque buildup on the artery walls. Peripheral artery disease occurs when atherosclerosis causes plaque buildup in the peripheral arteries.
Leg pain or cramping while walking, also known as intermittent claudication, is the most common symptom of PAD. When the muscles in the legs are unable to receive oxygenated blood it can cause intermittent claudication. Wounds or ulcers on the legs or feet that do not heal in a reasonable amount of time are other warning signs. Other symptoms include ongoing tingling or numbness in the leg, discoloration of the legs or feet, and slowed growth of hair and nails.
Knee Pain Relief From OA
The most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis (OA). It’s caused by the cartilage in the knee joints wearing down over time. It can cause pain in the affected joint. A common area for a person to develop osteoarthritis is in their knee.
Genicular artery embolization (GAE) is a procedure that can help alleviate knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. It is a minimally invasive procedure that is performed through a small puncture in the side of the hip or groin. A long, skinny tube called a catheter is guided to the arteries that provide blood to the knees. Once it is in place, small particles are injected that block the capillaries that provide blood to the often inflamed tissues in the lining of the knee. It is a short procedure, often taking less than an hour and a half, and patients typically go home the same day.
